For the remix project, our group decided to take a video about the intenationa students who study in the United States, mainly in MSU.
We chose this theme is because we are a group of Chinese students who came to MSU to study, it's happening on ourselves. Also, this project has somthing to do with my first portfolio. I basically came up with the idea and make it more concrete. Everybody else has his own work to do. It's the first group-working project in this class, we didn't really know how to work it out together. However, after a few times' group meeting, we got many ideas and all we sould do is to put the ideas together and make the video. We have searched much for the project, students who go abroad to study would always know that the imagination and the reality are different. Before we came to the US, all we think about is how to have fun and how to make more American friends, but after we came here, many stuff are different from what we thought. We want to think about this situation more deeply and add that to the video.
Two people in our group know something about how to make a video, but it's still a big challenge for us since no one is very good at it. Doing this project is not only a task to test our literacy or English writing level, but also a test of compositive ability. Every person in the group should have his own talent in one field, so it's time to use the skills and talent that we have. I'm looking forward to see our and other groups' remix projects.

Nothing Cultural Assumptions
I have found a movie which is called the "Hotel Rwanda". The movie is a true story of Paul Rusesabagina, who is a temporary manager of a small hotel. In this movie, Paul used his hotel to help thousands of people and used his pwn connections to save their lives. He sees many poor people in the hotel, even including the poor person who drink water from the swimming pool. The poors Paul sees in the hotel has a huge influence to him, he wants to help them and he really do it.
As a manager of the hotel, Paul is a very nice and kind character in this movie. The movie makes him a kind hearted and loving hotel manager. We could see that the pop culture respects the job of my field, and the people who work at the hotel are also kind and welcomed by others. In this portrayal, the hotel manager is like a great man and saved a lot of people. Although hotel management is a sevice industry, it is still respected by the pop culture. I think nowadays many people don't repect the people who are engaged in service industry, these kinds of portrayal of my field in popular culture could help people change the way they think about the workers in my field.

Time Flies
I have to say that this semester seems faster than last semster. It's going to be April soon, and I will go back home on May 4th. How time flies!
During last thre months, I strengthen my conviction in majoring in hospitality business. Before 2013, I didn't know what I should learn and what I want to do in the future. However, at the time I went into the class of hospitality management, I knew I would do that in the future. Everything is fun in that class. Recently, we have learned human resource, marketing and food service in hospitality business class. I have learned commercial operations, FIFO system, contribution margin, and how to tell the differences between noncommercial and commercial operations and selected subcategories for each. I was not a person who like to serve or to help the people who I don't really know, but now I think it's fun and important to learn how to serve and help others. In my opinion, it's the main idea in hospitality management. Only when we serve others, we would know what's the most important stuff to the guests. Majoring in hospitality managemen could not only teach me something about the professionl field, but also can teach me something about how to be a better person.
I really have learned a lot this semester, not only in my field, but other classes too. My writing class, lab class, sailing class and biology class all give me a lot that are totally new to me.
Talking about going home, I think it's the biggest wish for every foreign student who study abroad. Although it's my third year studying in the United States, I would still be excited when I'm thinking about going home to see my families. There is only one month left, I will try my best to keep doing a good job in every class. :)

Evaluating sources
http://travel.usatoday.com/hotels/post/2012/07/us-disability-rights-groups-call-for-hotel-boycott/805883/1
I have found a source about an argument in hospitality business. The argument is about whether to put a fixed wheelchair lift near the swimming pool in the hotel so that people can get into the pool without assistance. Some people think it's not necessary to have th wheelchair lifts near the pool, and most of he hotels in the United States dont's have the lifts. However, some people think the hotels do should add some wheelchair lifts near the pool so that everyone can enjoy the pool. In my opinion, everyone is equal, disabled people have the rights to swim or to get into the pool. No matter how necessary it is to put a fixed wheelchair lift near the pool, every hotel should do it to show guests that even the disabled people can get into the pool conveniently. I think the requirement that every hotel should have the wheelchair lifts near the pool is totally understandable. It would make pools more accessible by installing a wheelchair lift and also make guests feel more comfortable and equal.

Hospitality Management in Chinese Market
Many Chinese students come to the United States to study in order to get a better job easilier than others in China, and have a better future. So do I.
Recently, I have been reading a lot of articles about hospitality education in China and the hospitality management in Chinese market. I noticed that many universities in the United States have established partnerships with Chinese universities. In this way, students from one country could go to another country as exchange students, and learn different skills of management. Education in China and US is totally different, I think differen culture can help students learn more.
Some people think that Chinese student may want to stay in the United States to be one of the managers in US hotels. However, many Chinese students are being prepared to enter into China’s growing hospitality industry to become high-level managers and eventually take on corporate positions. In my opinion, although there are many Chinese companies have enough strength to employ talented people to manage a hotel, the potential of hotel management in Chinese market is huge. RenĂ© J.M. Schillings ever said "Working as a Hotel Manager in China I realized how difficult it was to find qualified local staff in China and when it came to hiring expatriates from overseas it was also often hit & miss. 40% of the foreigners who come to work in China do not complete their first contract. They resign or get terminated." I think Chinese students who study abroad still have lots of chances to become high-level managers in hotels.
Every big dream started with a small step. The only thing we could do is to study hard and bring good ways of managing a hotel to China. We can't control the market, but we do can control our own knowledge. I always believe that chances are for the people who prepare well.

Contemplating Controversy
Hotel management belongs to service industries. A big controversy in hospitality management is whether there should be one floor or several floors that should be only provided for women. Some hotels think that it's not necessary to provide floors to women since it's safe in a hotel. Others think More than 40 percent of all business travelers are women, and security is one of the biggest issues they face. Different perspective caused th controversy. Contoversies can push us to come up with the right answers. I have learned many controversies in my HB classs. Here is website which I think tells the right answer abou the controversy I have mentioned.

Experience in a hotel
I went to Cancun with my friends during my spring break. We chose to live in Beloved Hotel. We saw the ranking on Expedia, Belovd Hotel is first of the ranking.
We arrived at the hotel at about 11:30 pm. The hotel is far from the airport and the downtown, it's quiet, and the security is strict. The server gave us drinks immediately after we arrived. Since it's an all-inclusive hotel, we need to take photos after we checked in so that no one else could use our room number to get food, drinks, or other services in the hotel. The environment is so great, and the beach is just near the hotel. A staff leaded us to our own room, the room is big, a large balcony is in the room. Standing on the balcony, the sight are so good, the beach is right in front of me.
For the meals, we could choose any of the restaurants in the hotel. The service is like perfect. One night, I chose to eat near the beach. It was windy, and I felt cold. At that time, the waiter gave me a blanket, I felt warm and moved. They really gave us a feeling that we are at home, and making guests feel comfortable is everything.
Everyday we went out, the hotel would arrange a taxi for us. Everday we went back, the server would smile and said welcome back. When we got in our room, everything was tided up well, even the clothes and shoes are put in the right places.
Although the price is a little high, I think the services worth it. The service is like the soul of an hotel. University of Cancun is famous for hotel management. As a tourism city, Cancun's hotels represent a good model of hotel services.
I am going to major in hospitality management, I think the experience in Cancun is vey good for me. That was the best service I have ever had in a hotel, the Beloved Hotel has so much that other hotels could learn from it.

Reading Artifacts
For this blog, I have found an ad of a hotel.
Here is the ad.
Critical reading and response
Preview:for animals and people both, flowers and grass, an hotel advertisement
First impression:It's funny and romantic. The woman and the dog are both comfortable. It's strange why there is grass ans flowers on a table.
Key ideas:The hotel is comfortable, both animals and people can enjoy it. The environment of the hotel is good.
Connectons: It reminds me of fairy tales, princess and her dog, ad of a fashion clothing shop.
Questions: Why does a hotel ad have a dog on it?
What does these plants on the talbe mean?
Would the dog be abrupt in the ad?
Summary: The ad is trying to show that animals and people could both enjoy themselves in the hotel. Mostly women could find themselves like princesses in the hotel. The hotel is luxuriant and comfortable.
Key questions: Why are there flowers and grass on the table in a hotel ad?
Detail analysis: Why don't put dessert and dishes on the table? Why the woman sit on the table instead of the sofa?
Interpretation: There is "wonderland" in the middle of the pictures. Wonderland can be the symbol of W Hotel, and also has something to do with the pictures. There are animals and people in wonderlands, and they get along well with each other.
Synthesis: We couldn't slow down our steps and enjoy the beautiful natural scene in the city, the W Hotel provides us a chance to experience life in wonderlands. That's what the ad tells, animals, plants, people can live happily together.
Final Synthesis: The W Hotel uses the theme of wonderland to tell people the hotel is a comfortable and dreamlike place to live. Wonderland is where many people want to go, there is no sadness and sorrow in wonderland. The W Hotel gives people such a feeling that livng there can bring them happiness. The sentence "Welcome to wonderland" also makes guests feel like home.
